Fest Ready?

Monday, December 8th, 2008

There are lot’s of different Winter Festivals in most cultures around the world. And even cultures in the southern hemisphere (where it’s Summer right now!) have their own, or share in ours in their own way.

In Australia and New Zealand, the kids are off for summer holidays, and celebrate Christmas with picnics on the beach and surfing Santas! There’s also Hannukah and Kwanzaa, Ramadan just ended and at the beginning of February there are Tet and Chinese New Year.

What do you celebrate with your family? What do you do to get ready? What kind of decorating do you do? What kind of celebrations? Do you know of more Winter Festivals we should know about? Inform us!

Twilight Talk!

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

So, guys! This KEWLstaffer hasn’t had a minute free to get out and see Twilight! I don’t want to read all the critics reviews - I want to know what YOU guys think!

So tell me - without spoilers! - why you think I should spend my hard earned $11.50 (cuz that’s what movies cost in Hollywood!) on this particular movie! What makes it great/memorable/dreamy/scary/fun?

And if you’re not so hot on Twilight, tell me why (and please don’t just say “It sucks!” - give me a more specific reason WHY), and what you think I should go see instead.

It’s movie talk time!

Time to get stuff done!

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

As we seem to be racing towards the end of the year (OMG!), try not to let the little stuff slip past you and pile up into your new year. Take the time to get it done now! You’ll be happy you did! I mean, you’ll have all of your kewl New Years Resolutions to get started on, but you’ll have a pile of old junk and chores to get through before you can start the fun new stuff - and that can easily take the wind out of your sails come January!

So, try to plan to take care of one old job that is lying around waiting for you to tackle it every day until Christmas. Think of it as an advent calendar, where each day you have less junk weighting you down, because you’re slowly picking it off your list!

And that’s the other key! Make a list! No matter how long it is, if you do one per day, you’ll make a mighty dent in it before the end of the month.

Did you know that in Japan they do their spring cleaning before New Years?!? Of course, they don’t call it ’spring cleaning’! I actually don’t know what they call it! But they clean everything and make it spic and span to take a fresh start on the New Year - I just thought that was the kewlest idea ever!

So, return that library book! Get those shoes repaired! Rake those leaves in the yard already! Once you do, it’s done, and you can move on to something new!

Are You as Full as We Are?!?

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

It was a nice long weekend (especially for me!), but did we really have to eat the whole thing?!? And there’s something about eating all that food that really makes you feel hungrier, right? I mean, not right away, but the next meal, and the next and the next…it seems like we can eat more now than ever before!

Tip for the day to get back to ‘normal’ amounts of food: eat a bunch of smaller, healthy, snack sized meals instead of big ones. That will help your stomach get back down to size without making you think you’re starving yourself (hardly possible for most of us!) One egg and a piece of toast. A baggy full of carrots. A salad with chicken in it. A protein bar. A small portion of something warm and satisfying. That’s five meals, and none of them are big, but you’ll be busy eating all day - who can feel hungry when they’re always eating? Right?

Did you know that it takes the stomach 20 minutes to figure out that you’ve eaten something and then deliver that feeling of “Aaaah! I’m full.”? It’s true! So eat a little something, and if you’re still hungry in 20 minutes, then go in for seconds! Give your tummy a chance!

Peace Out
