Something to be Thankful For…

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

If there’s nothing else you can think of - and we’re sure you can! - you can at least be thankful you’re not this KEWLstaffer who will be getting a root canal (think really intense tooth drilling!), and won’t be able to eat any Turkey tomorrow! Luckily, there are plenty of soft foods in the T-Day line-up: mashed potatoes, yams, stuffing and at least the inside of pumpkin pie.

Here’s to a mushy Thanksgiving! Enjoy!

Strategies for Eating

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Thanksgiving is getting close, and if you want to successfully eat as much as humanly possible at the feast, here are a few tips to help you along! (btw, this is real, but we’re just kidding!)

1. Eat breakfast. If you don’t, you’re stomach will shrink, and won’t be able to hold as much food at the main meal! It can be small, but EAT!

2. Take it easy on the hot chocolate and cider. Save it for dessert time afterwards.

3. Put a little of everything on your plate. That should help you get past the parental “What about your greens?!?” comment, while still allowing you room to go back for more of your faves.

4. Leave room for dessert. Duh! But really, keeping the first helpings small will give you a chance for the best course of the meal without inducing pain and suffering.

5. Say Thank You a lot! It will be appreciated!

Demi for Tots!

Monday, November 24th, 2008

This past weekend, we got a little one-on-one time with Demi Lovato right before she hosted the annual tree lighting at The Citadel and officially opened the giving season for the national toy drive for Toys for Tots!

Toys for Tots is an organization that works to collect toys for kids who wouldn’t otherwise get any presents for Christmas. It’s a great way to brighten another kid’s holiday, so if you possibly can, why not pitch in with the whole family to donate a toy or two to the cause? Spread the joy!

Demi gave us an exlusive interview, and she was really kewl about signing stuff for us to feature as future prizes in the magazine: a guitar, an iPod dock, CDs and more! But since our Christmas issue has already gone to the printers (!) you’ll have to wait just a little bit longer for a chance at these goodies!

It was a crazy day, but craziest of all was the size of the tree: 90 feet tall!!! Demi got to pull the switch to light it, and voila! Tis the season!

Enjoy your holidays! We know we’ll be enjoying ours!

Comfort

Friday, November 21st, 2008

What does ‘comfort’ mean to you? Right now, this staffer would consider a nice warm blanket to cuddle up in, possibly in front of a fire, and maybe with a good romantic movie on DVD playing. And of course, someone you love would have to be there too - even if that means your family cat or dog to cuddle with!

For some people, comfort might mean being rich. For others, just having the basics, like a roof over their heads, enough food, light and heat would mean luxury!

Everyone finds their comfort in different ways, in different places and with different people.

What does ‘comfort’ mean to you?

Burning the Midnight Oil for You!

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

In this job, it seems like we never stop working! We go to the office all day, then out to movie premieres and music gigs at night, and then attend celebrity events on the weekends too! Lucky for us, the things we have to do are usually pretty fun for us as well! Last night, this staffer went to see singer/songwriter Josh Kelley (who was Amazing!), and then met and hung out with his band for the night, who are all great musicians and singer/songwriters as well! Music to check out on YouTube: Dave Yaden, Keaton Simons and Trey Lockerbie! And they’re all pretty easy on the eyes as well!!! Guess the lesson here is, if you want to be your best, surround yourself with people who are the best!

And tonight I’ll be taking in a preview of “Australia” starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman - I’m expecting extreme romance here! Hope you’re all going to see “Bolt” this weekend! We got to go to a press screening for it last weekend, and it was fantastic! Really exciting and funny and fun!

So, even though we’re tired, we’re having a pretty good time:)!

Busy Days!

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Musical Day! We’ll be hosting a visit with Mishon in our office today, sporting his own unique style, and then later tonight it’s off to the famous Hotel Cafe to see Josh Kelley play! It’s kind of a grown up night club kind of place - so we’re really lucky to go!

Who are some of the music acts you most want to see live?!?

Have a good one!

Busy Night Last Night!

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Hollywood hosted two premieres last night, only problem was, they were at the same time on opposite ends of town!!! Westwood and it’s classic old-skool theatres played host to the insanity that was the “Twilight” premiere, and our reporters were there…with 9 bajillion other screaming fans! More on that later! Same time, but across town in Hollywood proper, “Bolt” had it’s premiere, and stars Miley Cyrus and John Travolta were there. Only problem was…we’d already seen the movie! Don’t get us wrong - it’s awesome!!! And we love Miley as much as you do! It’s just that we saw her on Friday, and we haven’t seen the whole cast of “Twilight” together yet, so it was necessary to choose among the pearls! Tough choices, but hopefully that means we have more scoops to choose from when serving up your next magazine!!!

Hasta!

What a Weekend!

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Wonder what happened this weekend in the celeb scene?!? It was a tough weekend, but we did manage to get a Gibson guitar signed by David Cook as a future magazine prize! For the rest of it, though, a flu-bug has been going through the ranks, and we’re all so tired out from it, that most of us just slept all weekend long! What did we miss?

Tell us about the kewl things you did this weekend, and we’ll all pretend we did more than stare at the insides of our eye-lids!

School Must Be Getting Tough!

Friday, November 14th, 2008

We’re just assuming because we rarely hear anything from you guys these days! We’re busy too, going to all sorts of crazy events to get more new and up to date info for the site and the mag! Yesterday, we met a crazy band called “Ludo”, and we’ll be covering them in an upcoming issue in our songwriting 101 feature! Not all their lyrics are PG, but they are wacky and fun, and musically really out there! If you like FOB, these guys could be the natural next step in your musical progression! Their best advice to young musicians? Do the work! Play or perform everyday to be the best that you can be. It’s not about being rich and famous and enjoying the days off - it’s about enjoying every moment of doing what you love for a living!

So back to the books! It’s only another week and some til Thanksgiving vacation!

Give Thanks

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

We know Thanksgiving isn’t for another two weeks, but what’s to stop us for being thankful a little more often than that? We’re sure if you think about it, you’ll find you have some things to be grateful for right now, and there will probably be even more by the time the official holiday rolls around! If you get in the habit of being thankful more often, you’ll be in the habit of noticing how blessed you are, and you’ll feel luckier and happier more often too. We don’t see any reason to wait for some holiday to feel that way!

And who doesn’t need some appreciation every now and then? They did a test in New York city at least 10 years ago, where they had some people on the street say “Hi!” to strangers who passed by. Most of the people either ignored them or got angry at them, suspiciously wondering what they ‘really’ wanted from them! But then the testers switched to saying “Sorry”. Interestingly, the strangers now replied with much kinder words like, “It’s alright.”, No problem” and “No harm done.” And a few even said “Thanks.”

Kind apologies and a few Thank Yous could just change the world :)
