Official or not, we’ve just decided that that is what today is!  Want to play?  If someone asks you to help them today - do it!  Of course, don’t do anything that would get you in trouble or anything like that, but see if you can just stop, take your focus off of you and your needs, and just give it up to a friend! Not only do they totally deserve it (after all, they are your friend!), but it’s great practice to get into, and every new habit starts with a first step. Sometimes the mail box here at KEWL is nearly empty, and then there are times like these, when it is filled to bursting!  Letters, subscriptions, contest entries and claim forms from our prize winners…!!!  It’s  like getting stuck under a wave at the beach…except I can still breath if I just remember to!  It’s so good to hear from you all and hear your feedback about the magazine!  We’re pretty proud about the whole thing!

…and we’re done with July!  Crazy, huh?  Just imagine: we have a June issue out on stands, and people are writing us about the information in it WHILE we are working on and finishing a whole magazine for July WHILE we begin writing, researching, interviewing, and photographing for our August issue!  The craziest part is, you’re just about to get out of school for the summer, and we’re focused on all of your back-to-school needs!?!  Who needs sci-fi for alternate realities? Our reality is completely out of time!

But we recommend living in the moment for as long as you can,  so enjoy the sweet savor of the last few days of school before the ultimate freedom of summer vacation!  Can you stand it?

We’ve been having a great time lately at all the teen and kid themed events in Hollywood, and getting to know some of your fave stars even better!  We’ve always been big fans of Alyson Stoner, Jennette McCurdy, and Sammi Hanratty.  Rachel Fox came to see us, and sent us the sweetest Thank You card!  We have it up on our wall.  Hardly anyone sends actually hand-written Thank You cards anymore!  Very classy!  And more and more, our staff is falling for Selena Gomez!  She’s been super nice, poised and confident, and that’s the kind of thing we look for in all the girl celebs we like.  There’s been a lot of backlash about Miley lately, but all of our experience with her has been that she’s polite and thoughtful.  Maybe it’s the video camera that makes us think anything is okay?!?

So tell us: Who are your fave girl celebs and why?

Of course, there are things that you have every right to be afraid of: Sharks, getting hit by a car, weird older people, the smell of your brothers gym socks… But there are other things that we fear, that don’t make that kind of life or death sense.  You know what I mean?  Fear of Failure is one of those things.  If there’s something you’re afraid to try because you ‘might’ not be any good at it, it may be time to give it a try.  At least once you’ve tried it you’ll be armed with all sorts of useful knowledge!  Like: I really suck at that!  Or I wasn’t as bad as I thought!  Or the far more interesting I really love doing that!!!  You can play tennis without being a Wimbeldon contender.  You can sing without being a finalist on American Idol.  You can dance all you want, even if you never get good enough to take the stage anywhere.  Doing what you love is reason enough to do it.  Doing it for some other reason - like the things you think it will get you - can take all the fun out of it if you let it.  If you want to be an actress because of all the money and adoration you think it will get you, you’ll never be as good at it as someone who simply loves the art of acting!

A challenge for this weekend: Take on one of your fears!  Dare to be sucky!  Allow yourself to be a beginner with lots to learn.  You’ll probably surprise yourself at how good you already are!

Okay. For you guys, I’m sure you’re counting down the days until school is out. For us here at KEWL it’s like, “Where have all the days gone?!?” We can’t believe it’s June 5th already! Summer is so close we can feel it, and especially today in LA! We’ve been having a thing called ‘June Gloom’ out here, where the rest of the country is having late spring weather, and we get nothing but fog! Totally weird if you came here to go to the beach!

As you may know, this KEWLster was just on a little vacation, and got to go on the kewl new Simpson’s Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood. I had some friends from my foreign exchange days visiting from Germany, and you’ve got to show them the backlot at Universal, right? Well, this past Sunday a huge portion of that very same backlot burned down! It burned all Sunday and into Monday! A lot of the classic sets that get used all the time in movies, tv and ads were destroyed, plus the King Kong exhibit used on the backlot tour. It’s weird, cause I was JUST THERE! And I remember thinking (cause I’m kind of old now), “Wow! This thing has been here forever! I’m amazed it hasn’t burnt down!” I hope I didn’t jinx it or anything! The fire actually was started by some workers who were fire-proofing a building on the backlot - Fire is a complicated beast! Trained professionals, and still!

Last year a huge fire went up on the hill across from Universal and right above Warner Brother’s Studio. That one was set by some kids who were visiting from out of town and playing with fire-crackers. It almost took out the Hollywood sign! Do I need to mention that no one at any age should play with fire?!? Keep that in mind as we get closer to July 4th, okay?

This Disney Channel star is only in town for a little bit, so we’ll have to be quick and ask the best questions we can before he jets off on another Disney adventure.

OMG!  For some unknown reason, the KEWL internet connection is taking it’s super sticky sweet time today, and we’re left twiddling our thumbs when we’ve got so much connecting, uploading and downloading to do!!!  I kinda like my hair, so instead of pulling it out, I’ve decided to make a cup of tea while my computer works it’s way through the miles of network to our server and back.  I think I could walk there faster!  And at this rate, I’ll be swimming in tea by lunchtime!   The rest of the kewlteam has wisely decided to work from home today, which means they have internet connections that work perfectly fine!  I’m turning as green with envy as my green tea.  So there!  Enough fuming, we’re hard at work on a super rockin issue for your hot July summer time, with all new music tips for your time off with your iPod.  Funny how iPod is like Kleenex now.  There’s another name for it, but we all use the brand name instead.  Enough fun - I’ve got an internet beast to beat if we want to find out who won the April/May contests!  With this connection, though, I don’t see it happening very quickly!  Wish us luck!

The KEWL reader who won the “Reporter for a Day” sweepstakes was here this past weekend, and did a fabulous job!  Tess was on top of her game, and sometimes she knew more about the celebs that she interviewed than even we did!!!  She was a joy to work with and super smart, so look forward to her full report of her weekend with KEWL in our July issue!
