Idol Prophecies

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

We ask the same question every Wednesday, people: Which Idol hopeful is it gonna cost tonight?  As usual, the Davids delivered the goods, even if Archuleta had a funky little ‘pitch’ problem in the song America.  Syesha has really been pulling out the stops lately, too and all that confidence makes her seem safe from elimination this week at least.  So it’s between Jason and Brooke.  Brooke had a super strong version of ‘I am I said’, but her ‘I’m a Believer’ seemed a little lacking, and though we adore Jason, we might not be enamored of his work this week!  With everyone so strong, you can’t have a week like that!

What are your thoughts on who’ll get cut, and why?

Slowing Down? Don’t think so!

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

We are going full steam ahead doing the final touches on the next magazine for you!  It’s our June/Travel issue, and things are crazy around here right now!  All-nighters become the norm, and sleepy faces in the mornings abound!  Now, as the weather is getting warmer, all we want to do is sit out on the balcony and enjoy the balmy evenings!  Yep!  In LA it’s already balmy!  94 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday!

Now, we’d like some ideas from our editors in training: What do you think you would like to read about in July?  We thought about Red, White and Blue, but not all of our readers are Americans, or French or all the other countries that use those colors in their flags…and not all of them celebrate their country day in July!  As we become citizens of the world, so that we can work together to save it, we also become more aware of what other people do with their summers - or even if July even means summer for them!  What does July mean?  And what does July mean to YOU?

A Very KEWL Weekend!

Monday, April 28th, 2008

ben barnes

Our KEWL correspondents were out and about all weekend in a very hot LA covering a ton of celebrity events to get interviews and shout outs for you!  Our editor in chief, Denise, was out at the LA Times Book Fair getting the scoop on reading, and getting interviews with Aly & Aj, Dylan Sprouse, and Ben Barnes (Prince Caspian from the Chronicles of Narnia)!  It was a kewl all day event on the UCLA Campus covering books of every kind, and with tons of celebrities bringing them closer to the kids who were there.

Then we were at the 10th Annual Young Hollywood Life Awards, with hostess Aishi Tyler, and tons of celebs on hand.  We got shout outs from Taylor Swift, Jesse McCartney, Rachel Fox, and Tony Hawk.

Then there was the Children’s Cancer Research Foundations Kids 4 Kids 5K Run/Walk, with celebrity hosts Emma Roberts and Ryan Sheckler.  Also there to support the cause were Jennette McCurdy and Nathan Kress of iCarly, Sammi Hanratty and Field Cate, just to name a few!

We’re not done yet!  We also covered the STAR ECO Station’s 11th Annual Los Angeles Children’s Earth Day Celebration, where stars like Romeo, Lil JJ, BooBoo Stewart, Aria Wallace and Tequan Richmond were hanging out to show everyone how to be ‘green’ like a rockstar!

Our photog Eric was also out and about at the premiere of Speed Racer, so this was a really big weekend for everyone!  And at about 100 degrees all over LA, even near the beaches, it really felt like the beginning of summer fun and movie madness!  How was your weekend?

V Factory!

V Factory

Don’t get too jealous, but we just spent the entire morning with a boy band in the office!!!  V Factory is a hot new group (and when we say hot…!), and they’re just about to start a month long tour of House of Blues clubs all across the country!  All the guys are looking good and psyched to be getting out to all their fans.

If you don’t know them yet, they’re known individually as Nick, Wesley, Asher, Jared, and Nathaniel - and this Jared IS the very same Jared that is Ashley Tisdale’s boyfriend…okay was that confusing?!

They’re all cute, sweet, fun guys who had a blast making us laugh and scaring us to death riding their Kick-and-Gos all around the office!  Singing and dancing comes with the territory, of course.

The other bands with them on tour will be Menudo, NLT and Globe - it’s boy-band-fest 2008!  Check for the House of Blues May 2008 schedule near you, and of course, if they’re letting in people under 18!

They left us to go off to Dance Rehearsal, so you see, a pop band’s work is never done!

How Surprised Are You?

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Carly Smithson

We just read that Carly Smithson was voted off American Idol last night!  That is a real surprise!  We all agreed after Tuesday’s show that we thought she’d be the third to the last person, but this is putting an exciting edge on the show!

To be honest, some of us thought her voice was so perfect, it was a little bit boring (oops!), but we didn’t think so much of America would agree with that!  It was her singing that wasn’t surprising at all - as on pitch as it was.  Maybe we like to be scared just a little.  Maybe we like the way people overcome their imperfections.  And maybe now we don’t have the slightest idea who’s gonna win this thing!

What do you think of this set of predictions? The David’s in the top two spots, the next to go will be Brooke (though I love her), then Jason, then Syesha.  What do you think?

Vacation, Vacation, Vacation!

Boy on a lake

We’re hard at work on your June/Travel issue, so we’ve had nothing but vacation on our mind for weeks!  It’s soooo hard to focus on great vacation destinations and activities, and not get to go and do any of them!  Argh!  We’ve been looking at great camps, hiking trails, all sorts of beach and water sports, amusement parks, resorts and international destinations for study, volunteering or just plain relaxing!  We want to go on vacation!!!

It may not be clear to you guys, but your soooo lucky to be in school still!  The downside of ‘growing up’ is that you don’t get weeks and weeks of time off from your responsibilities to just sit back and enjoy life!  We’re lucky if we get two weeks in the whole year, and you guys get a couple of weeks off during the year AND a whole 2 and a half months at once to enjoy the summer!  We kinda miss that, so do your best to enjoy it for us once it rolls around, kay?

So tell us, what will you be doing with your summer?  Any big activities planned?  Any trips?  Do you even know yet?  Tell us what is coming up for you, but also tell us what your perfect dream vacation would be!  We want you dreaming right along side us!

Jonas Contact!

Jonas Dig

Well… what we mean by that is… the guys were at a special Earth Day event this morning, and we were there!  Video of Kevin should be up on our site today, giving his advice for a good earth day, and we even got the guys to sign a Solio Solar Gadget Charger that we’ll offer as a give-a-way in one of our upcoming issues!

Speaking of celebrities, we also got a kewl shout out from Ashlee Simpson and her main man Pete Wentz after the taping for her appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno!  Our photographer Eric and intern Alix were on hand, and only slightly embarrassed themselves by first running up to a random limo.  The stars drive themselves in LA!

Over the weekend, we interviewed the cast of Nickelodeon’s new show “Dance On Sunset”, plus their special guests, the Clique Girlz (who we also later ran into at the Rolling Stones concert movie on IMAX “Shine a Light”…they’re big Stones fans!)

Today, we’ll be interviewing Aimee Teegarden from “Friday Night Lights” to find out all about what’s new and upcoming for her!

So basically, it’s all happening in and around KEWL!  And you can check it all out in our video gallery, and then more in depth in the magazine!

Taylor is #1!

Monday, April 21st, 2008

showimg2.jpg

Today on the Internet Movie Database, which is Hollywood’s private tool for tracking everything in the Biz, Taylor Lautner from Shark Boy and Lava Girl is at #1 in their Star Meter chart.  We figure it’s due to the MTV movie blog on his new movie “Twilight” that’s filming in the Portland, OR. area right now!  He’s playing Jacob Black, the native American werewolf character in from the popular book series!  Maybe it’s the dreamy long hair he has for the role, but people are googling him like crazy, and that’s what’s making him number one right now!

Go on over to his KEWLblog, and leave him a note congratulating him!  He’s a great guy, and we wish him the best!

Did You Feel the Earth Move?

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Earthquakes don’t only happen in California!  According to today’s news, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake rocked through the midwest early this morning at 4:36am, and among the aftershocks was one that was a 4.5 on the Richter scale.  Those are some pretty good sized earthquakes!  Luckily, no one was hurt and there was only minor damage throughout the region, where building codes aren’t set up the same way as in California.

Earthquakes occur more regularly around the Pacific Rim. which is the westcoast of the Americas all the way up to Alaska and down the east coast of Asia and into the south Pacific including New Zealand.  It’s sometimes called ‘The Ring of Fire’ because of all the tectonic and volcanic activity found here.  But there are also active fault lines in America’s midwest and in the middle of Europe, too!

Have you experienced and earthquake?  Tell us all about it!  Where and when was it, and what was it like?

Not Believing Everything You Read

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Well, we had a nasty shock this morning!  It seems our lead news story yesterday wasn’t even true!  How embarrassing!  The story was all over the web about how a 13 year old boy in Germany had come to the frightening conclusion that we were thousands of times more likely to be hit by an asteroid than NASA had previously predicted!  We published the story here, and it turns out that NASA never agreed that the boy’s findings were correct, as was reported!  Thank goodness!

In a world where there is sooooo much information, and we can’t possibly know everything there is to know, there may be a few lessons to be learned: One might be “Don’t get to passionate about something until you have checked into the facts yourself.”  Another might be “Always admit when you’re wrong.”  It takes strength, but admitting a mistake is always better than out and out lying to those you care about.  We stand for giving you the truth whenever we can, even if that means proving that we don’t know everything all the time.
