It should be a long one for most of you… well, if you live in the United States, that is!!!  It’s our President’s Day Holiday on Monday.  It’s usually held on the Monday in between President Lincoln’s and President Washington’s birthdays.  George Washington was the first president of the United States, and served as president for the first 8 years of our country’s life.  Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president, and signed the emancipation proclamation, that led to freeing of the slaves. He also led the North to victory during the American Civil War. Sometimes we forget that our holidays aren’t only there to give us a break, but to give us some time to remember and honor people who made our country a better place to live!  Now go out there and have a crazy fun weekend in their honor!yourKEWLhistoryteam

We like Jack Johnson here at KEWL, but that might be because we have some older surfer types in the office who just can’t let go of that ‘just been floating on the ocean and chillin” vibe.  Sunset and dolphins… Hmmm! :)   Do you like him?

Also - what do you think of Natalie’s vegan footwear?  Too far? Finally something in the right direction?  What are your thoughts on vegetarianism, veganism, and animal rights?  We love animals, but kinda think they need some looking after… what do you think would happen if we just set them all ‘free’?  We’re envisioning packs of hungry dogs, and we’re not sure that sounds so great!

Okay, so you guys are just settling in with your brand new February issues of KEWL Magazine, but we have to keep moving to make sure there’s all sorts of new fun, games, pictures and prizes for the next issue in March!  It can get confusing around here when someone uses the phrase “next month”… “Do you mean the issue, or the actual month?  What month is it now anyway?!?”  So maybe we’re not the sanest people around, but at least we function well enough to put out a KEWL Magazine pretty much every month! 

Our in-house Testtube Alien just passed his two month Birthday on Monday, and we’re pretty shocked at how long he’s survived!  We’re giving them out at prizes this month, so see if you can beat our record in flawless baby alien care!  It’s a strange grouping of the Alien (Yagoni) a plush Echidna, Buddha and Elmo, but we think it expresses us perfectly :)!

We got a KEWL new XBOX Arcade from the XBOX peeps, and not only does it come with four kewl handheld buzzers for playing trivia games like Scene It, but we even got PINK game controllers!!!  Luckily, we haven’t set it up yet, or we’d never get the magazine out!

Gung Hay Fat Choy!  That’s Happy New Year in Chinese!  Or at least as close as our alphabet can get to it!  The story goes that in ancient times, Buddha asked all the animals to come visit him for the new year.  Twelve came, so he named a year after each one, and anyone born in those years are said to have a bit of that animal in their personality!  Those born in rat years tend to be leaders, pioneers, and conquerors. They are charming, passionate, charismatic, practical and hardworking.rat.  Hunh?  Every twelve years the cycle repeats, so that’s how all these different people can have been born in the ’same year’!

Just in case you’re wondering what year you are well give you a little cheat sheet!

  In most Chinese communities there should be a Dragon Dance and/or a parade this weekend, so check out all the KEWL things the culture has to offer you.  And remember: Fortune Cookies were invented in San Francisco!  (Gotta say for mah hometown!)

Sometimes this job is even better than usual!!!  Today, we have a team from XBOX coming in to install a whole new system for us, and to let us try out some new games so we can review them for you guys!  Maybe they’ll even give us a few to offer you guys as prizes!  Who knows?!?

We’ve been super busy lately, sending out all the new mags and shipping out prizes to those winners who’ve turned in their claim forms to us!  It’s like we’re spending the whole day reading and writing letters and packaging stuff up… actually, it’s pretty fun!  Too bad we also have to write all the articles and games and quizzes for the next issue, and keep updating everything online and…

Hey!  We’re sure you have a ton of things to do, too!  The point is - if you want to claim your prize, you’ve got ONE more week to get your claim forms in to us!!!  Yep!  That means mail them TODAY so that they have time to arrive at our offices before the deadline!!!  As busy as it makes us, we’d rather you guys get your prizes, than that we have to start all over and reselect new winners, and go through the whole thing again!  Now that’s REALLY some more work we can do without!!!

Make sure to send your parents out to vote if you live in a primary election state or territory today!!!  Take part in your democracy!  Or at least force your parents to!!! Ha!

Here it is guys!  As promised!  We all went to see it in our KEWL office, but before we give our reviews, we want to know what YOU have to say about it!  And we’ll keep this line open to comments as long as the movie is out there playing - which may have been extended!  Billboard.com said the movie would be playing for two weeks with the option for some theatre owners to extend.  Make sure you and your parents let your theatre know you’d still buy tickets, and your chances that they’ll keep the movie will grow!  It was number one at the box office this weekend, and bigger than any movie opening on Super Bowl Weekend for years! 

Oh!  I guess you can sound off about the Super Bowl as well!  Here at KEWL we don’t so much root for teams, as for athletes - we find ourselves rooting for whoever has the ball at the moment, and wishing them all the luck, so we’re happy for the Giants and sorry for the Patriots!  It was a really great game, and both teams were so good that it was a super exciting game for all of us watching!  Good work guys!
