Priorities
You know how you get all caught up in something in your life, and you’re convinced it’s the most life and death situation in the whole universe at that moment - and then you read something that reminds you just how good you’ve got it, and that you have NOTHING to complain about?!?
We caught Anderson Cooper’s (the CNN reporter’s) blog today about the hate-crime killing of a 15 year old boy in California. The boy had recently admitted to being gay openly, and instead of his honesty and bravery putting an end to the bullying, it became worse, to the point that one of his classmates felt it was okay to come in to class and shoot him. How can anyone grow up in the world today thinking it’s okay to kill people just because they have different views?!?
And as for bullying in general, it has got to stop! The only way it can stop is to let go of the idea that telling teachers and parents about what is going on, is somehow ratting out another kid . That belief just lets bullies continue to terrorize kids - it doesn’t uphold some kind of sacred code. If there was a code, why aren’t the bullies following it?
Every religious prophet or person that a religion is based upon preached tolerance. What people have done to that message since then is clear to see in every intolerant act we see that his done in the name of good. And not one of those important religious persons ever said that murder was okay.
So, next time you don’t get the exact color cell phone cover you were asking for, take a minute and set some priorities that make a little more sense in the world. And maybe get involved in helping when you see injustice? Just a thought…
