What’s your Hobby?

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Time to sound off again!

What’s the one hobby that consumes all your time, your imagination, and basically your whole life?  Okay, so maybe we’re being a bit over the top here… but then again, maybe so are you!  What is it that gets you funny looks from your friends because you bring it up so much?  What is it that you think of at night when you go to sleep, in the morning when you wake up, and - let’s admit it - in those slow periods during the school day when your mind is not exactly focused on work?

Here in the office, we have a music nut, a computer nut, two work-a-holics (you can thank them for the mag every month!) competition roller-skaters and swing-dancers, a singer, and at least one person who is not happy if she’s not on stage at least once a week, dancing, singing or acting :)!

What’s your ‘poison’?  Tell us below!

Marie Digby

We went to a Marie Digby concert last night, and it was REALLY GOOD!  Our photog Eric was there and got her to sign stuff for you guys to win, but you’ll have to wait a while for it!  You can check out her stuff on YouTube if your parents say it’s okay - she’s a singer songwriter who is most famous for her acoustic (with guitar only) cover version of Rihanna’s “Umbrella”.  Now she’s made an album with songs that she’s written and performs, and she played a bunch of them last night for a private audience of fans!  The album will be available in April, and of course, we’ll keep you posted!

About two weeks ago, our KEWLteam member Susan interviewed the the new pop-rock sensation Tokio Hotel.  You can watch one of their videos in our video gallery if you’re not familiar.  The band just won top honors as Band of the Year at MTV Europe’s Music Awards, and are beginning to cause quite a stir over hear as well!  It was a good thing we sent Susan, because the guys don’t speak English, and Susan just happens to speak their native language: German!  They had a great time chatting without an interpreter, which the guys had been doing all day, and getting the inside scoop on a band of guys who have been making music for 7 years together already, even though the youngest ones are only 18 years old!  Now that’s KEWL!  The whole interview will be in the April issue… after all, it takes a while to translate German into English, and we were all talking waaaay to fast!

Keep it KEWL!

We’re collecting Pledges!

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

We’ve been going around and collecting ‘green pledges’ from different celebrities for our April Earth Day Issue - but what would your pledge be?  What is it that you don’t do now, that you would be willing to do to help the environment?  Take a look around!  It should be easy to find something - like bringing your own shopping bags, or even re-using the ones you got last time at the store!  One of our faves is vintage clothing!  Some people call it second hand, but we call it a chance to ‘re-use’, and not look like a cookie cutter of everyone else at school!  Gonna use less water?  How?

Share your green tips, and we can all do a few more things to help save the planet, and make it a kewl place to live when you guys are really, really, really old!

How about ‘Global Kewling’?!?

Priorities

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

You know how you get all caught up in something in your life, and you’re convinced it’s the most life and death situation in the whole universe at that moment - and then you read something that reminds you just how good you’ve got it, and that you have NOTHING to complain about?!?

We caught Anderson Cooper’s  (the CNN reporter’s) blog today about the hate-crime killing of a 15 year old boy in California.  The boy had recently admitted to being gay openly, and instead of his honesty and bravery putting an end to the bullying, it became worse, to the point that one of his classmates felt it was okay to come in to class and shoot him.  How can anyone grow up in the world today thinking it’s okay to kill people just because they have different views?!?

And as for bullying in general, it has got to stop!  The only way it can stop is to let go of the idea that telling teachers and parents about what is going on, is somehow ratting out another kid .  That belief just lets bullies continue to terrorize kids - it doesn’t uphold some kind of sacred code.  If there was a code, why aren’t the bullies following it?

Every religious prophet or person that a religion is based upon preached tolerance.  What people have done to that message since then is clear to see in every intolerant act we see that his done in the name of good.  And not one of those important religious persons ever said that murder was okay.

So, next time you don’t get the exact color cell phone cover you were asking for,  take a minute and set some priorities that make a little more sense in the world.  And maybe get involved in helping when you see injustice?  Just a thought…

New Year’s Resolution?

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Here’s a challenge for the week: Remember those New Year’s Resolutions you made?  How you doing on them?  If you’re like us, quite a few of them have been lost in the hubbub of a new year!  So, let’s do this.  Pick up one of them - just one - and get to work on it this week!  Start today!  As soon as you read this!  It’s never too late to take the first step towards anything! (Well, unless you’re getting on a boat, and it’s already left the dock…!  But you can still swim after that boat!)

Now for the hard part: write it down here in the comments!  That way, we can all help each other to stick to our resolutions!

One of the KEWLteam members will be getting backt to working out!  She has 7 weeks until her birthday and wants to be back in better shape by then.  Couches, cookie-dough, and colds have held her back all winter - but no more!

What’s your goal!  Start it up, and be realistic about how long you’ll need to achieve it!  Good things take a good amount of time!

Good luck!

American Idol Update!

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

The competition is ON!  What do you think so far? Faves?  Unfair cuts already?  Who do you love and why?  You know what always impresses us?!?  How MANY people can REALLY TRULY SING!!!

Do us a KEWL favor, would you?  Don’t stop singing and dancing just because you may not be Idol material!!!  Dancing and singing are some of the greatest joys of being human, and should be celebrated - daily!  Turn on that fave song in your room and ROCKIT if you don’t want to do it in public, but let your freak flag fly and celebrate what was given you when you were given life!  Use it or lose it!

Have a KEWL weekend!

What are your fave comfort foods?  A round of Banana Nut Bread and Hot Chocolate is helping keep spirits high today… what would you suggest?

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

It’s raining and cool (not so kewl) in Los Angeles right now.

What’s the weather like where you are?

(In the interest of safety, don’t be too specific!  Big cities or areas of states and countries is enough!)

Negativity

Monday, February 18th, 2008

We overheard a guy getting really down on people who are negative.  It was funny, but he was being negative about negative people!  How do we stop the negativity?

By using our brains!  And our hearts!

When we’re approving the reviews and comments for the website and the blogs, we don’t want to stop people from expressing themselves, but sometimes they’re JUST negative, with no allowance for people who might just have different taste, or without even giving a reason (or even trying to figure out a reason!) WHY they didn’t like something!

Since it gets us down to have people put senseless negativity out into the world, we put our collective foot down, and won’t publish it on the site.  Now, that doesn’t mean we don’t allow people not to like stuff!  We welcome it!  We just want everyone to give us a better reason than “because it’s stupid!” - which is really no reason at all!  So… use your brains and understanding for others opinions when you have something ‘negative’ to say, and we’ll print it!  After all - not every movie or book is actually good!  And not every piece of music or tv show is everyone’s thing!

Give us intelligent dissent!  We don’t have to agree, as long as we agree to respect!
