What the Dickens?

One of the team…(ahem)… went to a San Francisco christmastime tradition today!  It was the yearly Dickens Christmas Fair, and it was a blast!  For the weekends between Thanksgiving and Christmas, a group of inspired crazies get together to build an entire world that is as close as you can get to the world of Charles Dickens!  Who’s that?!?  Just the guy who wrote “A Christmas Carol”, that’s who!  You know, the story with Scrooge, and Tiny Tim, and three ghosts who teach a miser the meaning of Christmas (we’re talking joy and brotherly love, here!).

It’s loads of fun, food, and song and dance too!  They even rebuild Fezziwig’s Christmas Party, and everyone dances reels and jigs and waltzes in full costumes to look like the 1850’s!  Big bell hoop skirts and leg-o-mutton sleeves and bonnets and lace!  Imagine being able to live out your fantasy of living in another time, even if it is only for a few weekends a year!

Last night, our roving reporter went to a Mariachi Christmas with Mariachi Camperos - who were incredible!  Such amazing musicianship!  Such voices!  Such a great crowd!  And they had a 12 year old singer named Gabi Ramirez… look out for her!

Before that, she went to a modern version of “The Nutcracker” ballet, called “The Hard Nut”.  Not as ’serious’, definitely more funny, and gorgeously danced!  The “Dance of the Snowflakes” had her sobbing with joy!  Like watching synchronized fireworks!

If you didn’t get the idea, we “Christmas” HARD around here!
