And the winner is….!

Monday, December 31st, 2007

KEWLreader SANDY from Savannah, Georgia!  Sandy and one of her parents will be going to see the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus Best of Both Worlds concert in Atlantic City on January 5th - and it’s our treat!  We’re flying them out, putting them up, sending them to Club Libby Lu for a complimentary pre-concert Club Libby Du, and then it’s off to the concert!!!

Our Editor in Chief, Denise, is going along too, and then jumping on the tour bus to spend five days on the road with Miley and the whole gang!  Should make for some stupendous reports in the next couple of issues!

From all of us at KEWL, we wish you the happiest of New Years!  This one’ll be better than ever!

What the Dickens?

Monday, December 24th, 2007

One of the team…(ahem)… went to a San Francisco christmastime tradition today!  It was the yearly Dickens Christmas Fair, and it was a blast!  For the weekends between Thanksgiving and Christmas, a group of inspired crazies get together to build an entire world that is as close as you can get to the world of Charles Dickens!  Who’s that?!?  Just the guy who wrote “A Christmas Carol”, that’s who!  You know, the story with Scrooge, and Tiny Tim, and three ghosts who teach a miser the meaning of Christmas (we’re talking joy and brotherly love, here!).

It’s loads of fun, food, and song and dance too!  They even rebuild Fezziwig’s Christmas Party, and everyone dances reels and jigs and waltzes in full costumes to look like the 1850’s!  Big bell hoop skirts and leg-o-mutton sleeves and bonnets and lace!  Imagine being able to live out your fantasy of living in another time, even if it is only for a few weekends a year!

Last night, our roving reporter went to a Mariachi Christmas with Mariachi Camperos - who were incredible!  Such amazing musicianship!  Such voices!  Such a great crowd!  And they had a 12 year old singer named Gabi Ramirez… look out for her!

Before that, she went to a modern version of “The Nutcracker” ballet, called “The Hard Nut”.  Not as ’serious’, definitely more funny, and gorgeously danced!  The “Dance of the Snowflakes” had her sobbing with joy!  Like watching synchronized fireworks!

If you didn’t get the idea, we “Christmas” HARD around here!

That’s it, people!

The entries have been twirled and a winner has been selected!  We won’t be naming the winner here just yet, as we want to contact them, and make sure they can accept the Grand Prize Ultimate Miley Getaway before we make it official!  If they can’t accept for any reason, or can’t get back to us within 48 hours, we have to move on to the next runner-up.  It’s tough, but that’s what’s in the rules, and after all, the concert is only two weeks from tomorrow!  We’ve got to make those travel arrangements pronto!

As soon as we have an official winner, we’ll let you know!

Some Housekeeping… again!

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Hey guys!  We want to hear from you, but since this a moderated site, meaning it’s safe for everyone, we don’t let comments go through that have questionable words, or that don’t have something to do with the subject of the blog, or at least the magazine!  You can always ask magazine questions, and we’ll try to start a new blog on that subject to get you an answer!  Sometimes we can tell that it’s spammers trying to sell you guys stuff, so we delete those immediately, but sometimes we’re not sure!

We’re better safe that sorry, so if your comment doesn’t show up in a day or two (we’re gone over the weekends), write again, and maybe check the language you use, or just make sure you’re on subject?!?  We want everyone’s voice to be heard!  We just have to be sure of the words you use to express yourself!  One of us grew up with a Mormon kid who made up the most amazing words to use instead of swear words!  One was Pepsi Cola - believe us, it was the way she said it!  Not that that is the point, but it is an option!  If we can edit a word out here and there, we’ll do it, but we want you to be aware of which words aren’t getting through, so you can stop using them.  Well, at least with us!

Other than that, we hope you’re all having fun, and Felicity, Sami and I would love to hear more from the rest of you!  No matter how little or how much you have to say, say it!

onward,

What’s on YOUR desk?

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

On the KEWL desk central, we’ve got our computer and phone (of course!), two Bugs Bunny coasters for hot or cold drinks (so they don’t mess up the desk), a pen cup that mysteriously empties itself about every two weeks, a meditating Buddha holding a scented tea light, some fresh Bartlett pears, a plush toy stuffed Echidna (from when the boss went to Australia!), our TestTube Alien (blinking away - and all the way to the top of the tube!), and then various books for reviewing,  pads of paper, return address labels, and a stapler.

What’s on your desk?

Tea?

Monday, December 17th, 2007

We’re having a tea morning here at KEWL. Just trying to warm up, here!!!  It’s not just that we’re having some pretty cold weather for Southern California, but our offices seem to be refridgerated as well!  We’ve been in these offices for nearly a year, and had the repair guys in at least three or four times, and it is never comfortable for more than a couple of days!  None of us can wear any really cute clothing, because we have to throw big jackets and sweaters over everything to keep warm!  It’s crazy!

Tell us anything crazy that you have to put up with - we know we’re not the only people suffering from poorly designed technology!

Argh!

Get a New Outlook!

Friday, December 14th, 2007

We just re-arranged the offices at KEWL!  Well, we’re all in the same offices (except for our photographer, Eric!).  Mainly we just moved all the desks and computers around so that everyone is facing a different direction than before!  Now, we’re almost all somehow facing a window - a good think in winter-time, don’t you think?

The temps in Southern California have dropped, so that for a change, we get to whip out our cold weather wardrobes for Christmas!  Boots and sweaters and turtlenecks - there are even a few heaters being turned on!  41 degrees Fahrenheit is really quite low for us!

Our office “TestTube Alien” has grown quite a bit over the past week - we’re a little worried it might grow right out of it’s test-tube!  The only trouble we’ve had with it, is that sometimes the office cleaning crew leaves a light on, and then we come in in the morning to a panicking alien!  When that happens, we just throw a poncho over it for half an hour or so, just until it’s heartbeat slows down a bit.  Guess that’s the downside of not keeping it at home!

Things are slowing down in Hollywood, as the stars all star heading home for the holidays!

Have a good weekend!

“I’m Dreaming…”

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Do you and your family do gifts for the winter holidays?  If you do, and probably even if you don’t (!), there may be some ‘objects of desire’ on your wish list that you feel almost as strongly about as that super cute crush you’ve got!  Tell us what they are!

Here at KEWL, we’ve got a strange collection of things we’d like for the holidays:

1. More hours in the day, and more days in the week to finish each issue of KEWL!

2. One of those little toothpaste tube squeezer-roller-thingies. (honest!)

3. True love (for those of us not so lucky yet!)

4. A cleaner planet.

5. For the world to realize that violence does not end violence.

6. A wetsuit (kowabunga!)

7. Another trip to New Zealand (that fish stand in Kaikoura!)

Of course, we could go on and on, but why don’t you continue?  What are you positively lusting after, gift-wise?!?

We’ve mailed the first prize!

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

Two of our readers were so quick on the draw, it almost feels like they walked their forms over from across the street!  Except one of them is from Georgia!… you know who you are, Felicity!

If you, or any of your friends entered the contests, get them to check the site and their emails right away!  We’re going to stick to the rules this time out, which means you have to return the forms within two weeks of our posting the winners!  Yikes!  Wanna know what day exactly that is?  We posted the winners the evening of December 7th, so we’ll give you two weeks and a weekend, until Dec. 24th!  We have to get your forms by Christmas Eve to be able to send out your prizes!  So hurry up and send them in!

Please don’t dawdle!
