What Are You Putting Off?

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

There are things in life that we have to do.  They are not going away.  No matter how much we wish they would!  What’s the thing in your life that you are putting off doing?  Why are you putting it off?

Hey!  Let’s all write down what we’re putting off right here, and then make a promise to get it done before ….Thanksgiving!  Or at least by the end of the month!  Okay?  Okay!  We’ll be each other’s helpers and get it done!

Here at KEWL, we have been putting off getting back to exercising!  I guess our beds just seem so warm and comfy each morning that we don’t want to get out of them until we have to!  And then at night, we’re so tired, we grab a bite of dinner and fall back into them!  That’s not much of a life, is it?  Back out into the world!  Back to getting energy from using it!

Okay!  What’s your thing?

World Music

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

Did you guys know that there are musicians and bands out there in the world, who have sold more albums than some of your favorite US bands, but you’ve never even heard of them?!?  It’s true!

There are bands from Mexico and Germany and even places as close in language and culture to the US as Canada that have huge pop, punk and rockstars that somehow haven’t made the jump to  US popularity.  We’re going to try and change all that!

Starting in the Holiday issue - hitting newsstands the week of December 10th! - we’ll have a World Music Spotlight section, where we’ll introduce you to bands from around the world that we think you’ll like!  We’re also contacting their labels to get their videos up on our video portion of the kewlmag site, so you can see and here these great teen performers in action!

Do you know of any kewl new acts that we should check in to?  Let us know!  And we’ll do our best to get the word out and share their kewl music with the world!

Can’t Wait!

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Our KEWL photographer was at the Best of Both Worlds show in LA last night!  He’s actually been at quite a few shows this week all over California, and will finish it up tonight with the concert in San Diego!  Yesterday, he got pix of some of the girls and their parents who were getting ‘concert ready’ at the Club Libby Lu store in Glendale!  They have a Hannah Montana Make-Over before the show!  Then he went to the MileyWorld.com pre-party (sponsored by KEWL!), for pix of everyone getting ready for the big show.  The show itself was crazy!  And he got shots of Miley and the Jonas Brothers rockin’ out for the big finale!

Can’t Wait to show you all the pix, but we have to wait until he gets back from the San Diego show!  We will all just have to be patient until then…. !  We’ll help each other, right?  Breathe in and out!

Happy Thursday!

Losing Your KEWL!

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

Hey guys!  Just cause we’re ‘in a mood’ here at KEWL today…(!) What do you do to get back to normal when you lose your kewl?!?  We’ll take any and all tips and tricks for getting our tempers back under control, especially since we have no idea why we’re just so incredibly angry today!

Crazy, isn’t it?  But there really doesn’t always have to be a good reason to lose our tempers - Sometimes we just lose it, and can’t figure out where we left the nice, sweet understanding person we usually are!  Important thing is, we realize it is OUR mood, and take responsibility for changing it back!

Okay!  Send us your help!

A KEWL movie… but maybe not for everyone…

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

As sponsors of AFI Fest in Los Angeles (see previous posts), we got to go see a Gala Screening of the new movie ‘Juno’, by director Jason Reitman (He also directed “Thank You for Smoking” last year).  The movie is about a tough as nails 16 year old from a regular working class background, who gets pregnant, and decides to personally find some deserving parents to give it to for adoption.  Her actions, and language, are all over the map - but in the end, we think it is a really good story, and despite initial bad decisions, she makes a lot of surprisingly good ones.

What do you think about watching movies about teen pregnancy?  Do you think there should be an age limit?  Or is learning about the pitfalls and mistakes of others a good lesson to learn anytime?

The movie is rated PG-13, and deserves it due to language and situations, so be warned if that’s not your kind of thing!  We found it funny, and relatable, and so touching that ’someone’ was crying for the entire last 20 minutes of the film… and smiling, too!  Great performances!  Incredible film!  Write it down for when you’re older if you’re not old enough now!

Are You A Future Filmmaker?

Monday, November 5th, 2007

This past weekend, KEWL got to be a community sponsor of the American Film Institute’s Film Festival in Hollywood, California!  We introduced a kewl new film by a girl director, Nina Davenport, met some people from other film festivals, and caught up with a group that specializes in getting kids interested in Filmmaking!

Do you want to make a film?  What would your film be about?  What would you like to do on the film?  You could: Act, Direct, Shoot the film, do make-up and hair, design costumes, design the sets, do special effects, do stunts, feed the actors, organize it all (that’s the producer!)… there are a million talents needed to make a movie!  What are your’s?  Where would you best fit in to help make a great movie?

Tell us about it!

Did you guys know…?

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

That the pre-party for all the Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana concerts is open to everyone?!?  It’s a big tent event out front of the concerts, and it’s put on by MileyWorld.com and KEWL Magazine!  You can go get your pictures taken with her bus - featuring her gorgeous face and our logo right next to it!  What a KEWL girl!  You can also get free copies of our magazine at the events!  Right now it’s the Oct/Nov issue featuring Ryan Scheckler on the cover - who just won the Dew Tour for skateboarding!  Can we pick winners, or what?!?  (Although, I think Ryan may have done most of the work!)

So, even if you don’t have tickets to the concert, you can still get out there and get your MILEY on!  Check out all the deets at MileyWorld.com!

PS: She’s in California this week!

What was your costume?

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

I was a Jane Austen heroine in a full costume from the early 1800’s - like Pride and Prejudice or Emma!

What were you?  How did it come off?  As well as you expected? Better?

Hey!  And when did it become okay to take HANDFULLS of candy instead of just one or two pieces?!?!?!?  What are parents teaching their kids these days?!?  (Sorry!  I was giving out candy last night, and even though I told kids they could have “a treat this time”, a lot of them just thrust their whole hands in and took as much as they could grab!  PS: the one’s who only took one, I let take another!)

Tired, but happy!
