Where are you from?

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

On the kewlmag website today, there’s a daily poll asking our readers where they are from.  Only problem is, there are only four answers allowed!  Let’s turn today’s blog into a shout out of your home- town, state, and country!

In all the letters we get, kids are writing in from all over the world, and we think that’s pretty KEWL!  That just shows that kids the world over have similar interests, no matter where they live, or what their house looks like!  The differences can be pretty KEWL, too!

On our MySpace page (www.myspace.com/kewlmag) we’re starting up a KEWL fan of the month feature… wouldn’t it be KEWL if we had readers from all over the globe in that space?!?  The more we hear from you, the more likely it is we can get our magazine to the racks in your neighborhood!

And speaking of the magazine, it’s here!  The newsstands should have it, and if they don’t, you can still subscribe online!  Just go to the site, www.kewlmag.com, and look for the Subscribe Now button - then we can send the magazine straight to your house!  How KEWL is that?!?

All right, guys!  Where are you from?!?

Good And Smelly

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

We’re having fun here at the office today, checking out all the new prize packages that are coming in for the next issue!  We’re especially having fun with the Me!Bath products, because they smell so darn good!  So that brings me to my question for you today:  What is your favorite smell, and why?

I once had a dream, and woke up convinced that cinnamon and freshly laundered shirts were the best smell ever!  Weird, huh?!?  Maybe you like new cut grass, or hot sand, or bacon sizzling, or… well, I don’t know!  Fruits and flowers and the world at large are there to choose from!

Let us know your favorite smell and why!  Go ahead and be specific!  There’s plenty of room for stories on the internet!

There are so many new videos out this week!  I had trouble getting through the news this morning for all the KEWL new stuff to look at: Emmy Rossum, Rihanna, Nicole Scherzinger… there’s even some video of Gwen Stefani taking an unintentional stage dive during a concert in Glasgow, Scotland!  Where Beyonce leads… we guess!

So KEWLfans, what is your favorite video right now?  What’s the one you could watch over and over again and still never get enough?  And do us a favor and check out all the kewl videos up on www.kewlmag.com !  There’s a kewl Aly&AJ one right on the front page, and tons more in the video section of the site.

Voting begins…NOW!

Time to get Creative!

Monday, September 24th, 2007

With a little over a month to go, the truly trendsetting revelers are getting prepared… So, what’s your Halloween costume going to be?  If you want it to be really cool and unique, you may want to start now!  At least with the brainstorming!  The more ambitious among us will get out the patterns and the sewing machine (and mom, if she’ll help us!) and get to work on making a one of a kind masterpiece!

Where do you get your inspiration?  Try TV, the movies, a funny joke you heard, famous people from history, or mis-interpret a word or phrase for a funny effect!  I went out as ‘envy’ once: I was dressed head to toe in green, plus my face and hands were green, and my hair, too!  It was super fun, just make sure to use extra conditioner in your hair before you put on that color - mine was slightly green for a couple weeks after!  Can you  think of a pun, or a play on words that might work as a costume?

Share any and all of your costume ideas here!  And please!  Avoid the “Mean Girls” cliche: The “sexy woodland creature” cop-out!  Where’s your creativity, ladies?  All right!  Let’s impress each other!

Weekend Movie Blog!

Friday, September 21st, 2007

Okay guys!  Go crazy now!  What movie have you seen this weekend?  Did you like it?  Why or why not?  Without SPOILING it for everyone else, try to describe why you liked it - but don’t give away the good stuff!!!! Then tell us why we would want to see it, or not see it, too!  Convince us!  Use your words!  There are so many out there…

Did you guys know that Americans use less words than Brits?  Just check out the movie reviews on www.kewlmag.com , and you can immediately tell who’s writing from England, and Australia, and New Zealand, and Canada!  It’s so KEWL!  So, come on you Americans!  Time to make up for unused words, and use a ton of em!  When we can’t see your face, they’re the best possible way to express just exactly what you want to say!

Try ‘borrowing’ your parents, or older brother or sister’s Thesaurus.  It’s a kind of dictionary, that gives you other words with the same or similar meaning to the one you’re already using.  On www.thesaurus.reference.com, this is the list of synonyms for KEWL: (well, cool, really)

air-conditioned, algid, arctic, biting, chill, chilled, chilling, chilly, coldish, frigid, frore, frosty, gelid, nipping, nippy, refreshing, refrigerated, shivery, snappy, wintry, assured, collected, composed, coolheaded, deliberate, detached, dispassionate, impassive, imperturbable, level-headed, nonchalant, philosophical, phlegmatic, placid, quiet, relaxed, self-controlled, self-possessed, serene, stolid, together, tranquil, unagitated, unemotional, unexcited, unflappable, unruffled, aloof, annoyed, apathetic, distant, frigid, impertinent, impudent, incurious, indifferent, insolent, lukewarm, offended, offhand, offish, procacious, reserved, solitary, standoffish, unapproachable, uncommunicative, unenthusiastic, unfriendly, uninterested, unresponsive, unsociable, unwelcoming, withdrawn, dandy, divine, glorious, groovy, hunky-dory*, keen, marvelous, neat, nifty, sensational, swell, crazy, daffy, wacky, adequate, admissible, all right, average, big*, chop chop, close, common, decent, delightful, ducky, fair, far out, groovy, hip*, hunky-dory*, ice, kosher*, large, okay, passable, peachy, peachy keen*, pleasant, pleasing, respectable, right on*, sharp, slick, standard, sufficient, swell*, tolerable, trendy, unexceptional, unobjectionable, welcome…

And those are just the verbs!!!!!!  Now get going!  The subject is movies!  WRITE! :)

Trashin Fashion

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

Did you check out the new Fashion post on the kewlmag website?!?  We went off on what we deemed some terrible ‘fashion don’t’ crimes committed by the stars in recent weeks.  We’re calling it “What Was She Thinking”, or WWST for short.  What do you think?  Too harsh?  Right on?  Are we missing some?  Let us know what you think about the stars fashion faux pas (missteps), and any advice you may have for their future choices.  Oh, and uh…let’s keep it as nice as we can, even if the truth is sometimes painful!!!

Always perfectly in style (?!?)

Losing Well

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Do you know how to lose well?!?  It’s a good skill to have, since we can’t always be the winners!  “Not you!”  You think, but someday, even the best and brightest run up against someone who can beat them at something, big or small.  Fair or not, if you want to come out looking good, you’ve got to learn to give it up and still stand proud - after all, you gave it your best!

It’s hard not to be jealous of the person who takes it all away at the end, but it shows how strong you are, if you can congratulate them, and really mean it!  That’s much harder than winning, now isn’t it?

So let’s give it up for the guys and girls who didn’t come in first!  Especially if they tried their hardest!  Everyone deserves a pat on the back for putting it out there at all!  Anyone you know who deserves a shout out and some props?  Put it here!  (But keep the personal info to a minimum!  We won’t be able to approve it if it gives out too much!)

Have you had ‘green’ thoughts today?

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Did you see some trash on the ground and think, “Why would somebody do that?”  Better yet: did you take care of it?  Sure, you may not be able to take care of all of it by yourself, but even one piece put in the trash is an improvement.  Look around today, and see if you can spot an area that really needs some sprucing up.  If you can’t find one, you should consider yourself super lucky!  For the rest of us, it’s never to get in on global clean-up day!  Okay, so it was last Saturday - that doesn’t mean there aren’t still areas that need cleaning up today!  Find one.  Find a teacher or grown-up to help organize you (there are some safety and health issues, so it’s good to have grown-ups around for that).  Make a big deal of it, do a good job, and maybe people will think twice before throwing their trash there again!

Look on the web for organizations that can help you with planning and ideas, or lead you to a local group that you can get involved with!  www.healthebay.org in Los Angeles should be able to help you get you started!

Kewl was out there cleaning up the beaches near us in Malibu, California last Saturday.  What will you do?  Brag about it here!

Where is YOUR Waist?!?

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Well, here at KEWL, our waist is not below our backside, at any rate!  We do enjoy the fact that instead of it being the girls always suffering for fashion, now it’s the guys turn!  Sure, we’re always tugging at tube tops and mini skirts, or anything else that isn’t cut just right, and now guys have always gotta have one hand free to hold up their pants!  Pretty silly use of hands, when you’ve only got two!

Anyhoo, what do you think?  You think it’s cool how guys are almost always on the verge of finding their pants as a kind of fashionable horse-hobble?  Is there a limit?  And any ideas on how to change the fashion without needing to pass a law?

We’re all ears!
