If you’re into it, baseball just had a record breaker yesterday: Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants hit his 756th home run, and with it, took the title for the most home runs in a baseball career. The previous record was held by Hank Aaron of the Milwaukee Brewers, who quit playing ball in 1976.
A LOT has been said about Bonds’ use of steroids making his an ‘empty’ record. We would just like to offer some other arguments to this: 1. At the time Bonds may (or may not have, nothing’s been proven) have used steroids, it was not illegal, and he would not have been alone in using them. So, if everyone’s using them, why is he still better? 2. The four minute mile in running was first broken by Roger Bannister in 1954, and since then, if you can’t run a mile in under four minutes, you shouldn’t even bother competing. Training methods and diet have played a huge role in ever increasing sports achievement in all areas, and as we know he’s got some good trainers with his team, we’ve got to take that into account.
Only one other man ever managed what he did, and that was over 30 years ago…don’t you think the guy deserves some respect?
